Yellow Magic Orchestra member Yukihiro Takahashi’s ‘Saravah’ LP arrives

Yellow Magic Orchestra member Yukihiro Takahashi is releasing his city funk LP Saravah.

Firstly Takahashi’s 1978 city funk classic is being released outside of Japan for the first time. So the album comes out this October via Wewantsounds. Surely Saravah is one of the key Japanese albums of the 70s. Takahashi recorded the Saravah album with Ryuichi Sakamoto and Haruomi Hosono. Thereafter it was released in 1978 at a key time. Following his tenure with Sadistic Mika Band, Yukihiro Takahashi had just joined the first line up of the iconic ‘ Yellow Magic Orchestra’.

It features classics such as La Rosa and Mood Indigo. In short, the album is a sophisticated mix of Disco Funk, synth Pop, Ambient, French Exotica, and Bossa Nova. To explain Takahashi’s Saravah. It was inspired by French musician Pierre Barouh. In fact, Pierre Barouh was responsible for introducing Bossa Nova music to France with his track ‘Samba Saravah’. Without doubt, Takahashi’s Saravah is the missing link between the City Pop scene of the late 70s and the synth sound of YMO which was about to revolutionize the world. At the present time, the album is remastered by renowned engineer Mitsuo Koike. Also, the classic funk album features original artwork with photos by Masayoshi Sukita (David Bowie’s Heroes). Coupled with a 4-page insert and a new Introduction by Benjamin Barouh (Saravah Records).

Finally, Yellow Magic Orchestra member Yukihiro Takahashi’s album Saravah comes out on the 4th of October. Certainly, head here to pre-order the 1978 classic. While you check out the artwork and tracklist below.
