So the iconic electronic pop duo first released their now-classic album Walking Wounded in May 1996. Basically, the eighth studio album from the band sold over a million copies worldwide. Also, it debuted at #4 on the UK Album Charts. In fact, the album contains four UK Top 40 singles. As well as the Top 10 hits Walking Wounded and Wrong. Surely the album set a new benchmark for the intersection of contemporary electronic music and smart pop songwriting.
In fact Ben Watt was inspired by the London drum ‘n’ bass scene in early 1995. When he saw a rhythmic connection. Especially between Everything But The Girl’s early 80s Latin-pop arrangements and the high tempo syncopated breakbeats in the sets of DJs like Fabio, Doc Scott, and Peshay.
To explain Watt said: ‘I was immediately inspired,’ ‘It was like a futuristic Brazilian sound. The mix of high-tuned propulsive drums, late-night samples, and low sub-bass just seemed to leave a big plangent hole in the middle, and in it, I pictured Tracey’s voice. I heard the same vibe in the modern deep house and downbeat sound.’
Finally, Everything But The Girl’s Walking Wounded, will be reissued on vinyl on 8th November 2019. Surely, head here to preorder the album. Also, be sure to check out the artwork and tracklist below.
