Hard Graft Records is grey walls, no fuss: a few chairs, a water dispenser and a formidable, well-curated stock of new and old LPs, which touches on metal, hip hop and rock. Stay for a bit and speak to owner Nick Mun about the vinyl experience; among other things, he’ll tell you that ‘an LP is a cultural artefact’.

The vinyl collection is pretty interesting here. Quite a heaven for 80s to 90s alternative music lovers, especially for Brit Pop listeners. Records like Lightning Seeds, The Stone Roses vinyl boxset, Blur, Slowdive, JAMC early presses and also arrays of great post-punk and metal selection were packed inside. They also sell new sealed records and few arrays of 7”.

Joe’s MAC started out life as a flea market stall in Amcorp, before upgrading to a shop lot a few years ago. MAC stands for “music, art and collectibles”, and indeed it stocks everything from antique clocks to guitar strings, ukeleles and framed posters. The main attraction, however, is the huge collection of vinyl records, labeled according to genre and language. Vinyl devotees flock there to peruse a mix of classic and contemporary vinyl, starting from a very reasonable RM5.

This store is a goldmine of old records. Most of them are a mix from the owners’ own collections and some imported ones from the UK. Besides LPs, Crossroads Records also sells used CDs and cassettes, so when you’re here, get ready to do a little digging.

There’s more than just vinyl, cassettes and CDs here; you’ll find zines, books and other punk-related merchandise. Be a good sport and support the venue by attending the gigs held regularly downstairs.
