Record all your favourite vinyl music into the Vinyl Recorder

Convert Technologies, thinking ahead of the vinyl resurgence of late, has developed a free app called The Vinyl Recorder that records your albums to 16bit/48kHz FLAC files. With the aim of making it extremely accessible to the current market, the process simply involves connecting a USB turntable to your smartphone via the appropriate USB adaptor cable and tapping the red dot on the app’s interface.

As Vinyl Recorder is supported by Gracenote, which provides music, video and sports metadata and automatic content recognition technologies to entertainment services and companies, recording songs means its metadata is automatically detected and attached to the files, and can automatically include information such as song title, album title, artist and artwork. Ripped music is stored in both the in-app music player, or your phone/ipad’s music library.

The app is free, however, using the service requires you to pay for the music your record. In-app credits cost per 10, 50, 100 and 250 songs, and range between£1.99 – £29.99 – which is a fair price to pay to encapsulate your favourite music from your vinyl collection into a digital format. That means it can cost as low as 12p per track, which makes it much more economic than buying an entire album online. You can also check if you are happy with the sound quality by listening to the free 30-second clip first that the app provides.
