22 Sep Top 5 recommended new and reissue vinyl releases to get (Sept 22)
We bring you a list of the top 5 new and reissue vinyl releases to add to your collection. This week we have an interesting lot. From mellow psychedelic soundscapes to motion picture scores. Take your pick down below.
Ryuichi Sakamoto – Thousand Knives Of Ryuichi Sakamoto (Colored Vinyl)
Ryuichi Sakamoto’s debut album, recorded in 1977-78 shortly after co-founding Yellow Magic Orchestra with Haruomi Hosono and Yukihiro Takahashi. Thousand Knives Of Ryuichi Sakamoto was recorded in the wee hours of the night, as Sakamoto was preoccupied with his work as an in-demand session musician during the day. Upon playing the record, you will be able to hear his exploration for new sonic worlds straight away.
“Thousand Knives” was a blueprint for the YMO sound and includes cult classics that were to become live favorites. Save for a small-scale release in 1982, this is the first time the album is being released on vinyl outside of Japan. Remastered from the original tapes by renowned producer and engineer Seigen Ono, the LP edition comes with original artwork including OBI strip and four-page insert with new introduction by Paul Bowler. Grab your copy here.
FKA Twigs – Magdalene (Indie Exclusive Colored Vinyl)
FKA Twigs‘ music is based around the familiar sounds of 90’s R&B but twisted and turned in new complex and fascinating ways. In addition she has stated that her new record Magdalene is “about every lover that I’ve ever had, and every lover that I’m going to have”. Given these points we are certain that FKA Twigs will be bringing us through an intimate journey with this record.
The album was self-produced by Twigs and recorded over the last three years in London, New York, and Los Angeles while Twigs went through a dark period of personal illness. Magdalene features co-production and collaborations with Nicolas Jaar, Metro Boomin, Jack Antonoff, Oneohtrix Point Never, and Skrillex. The LP is pressed on red vinyl, and the album artwork is by long time collaborator and contemporary artist Matthew Stone. Secure your copy here!
King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard With Mild High Club – Sketches Of Brunswick East (Colored Vinyl)
This modern classic jazz rock session from King Gizzard And The Wizard Lizard was number three in a series of five albums the band released in 2017. Sketches Of Brunswick finds the Aussie psych crew linking with L.A. stoner pop outfit Mild High Club. Well the results are definitely much more varied than their previous few records. You can expect a much more chill soundscape in this album. In essence it is a mix of jazz, African pop, folk and soul that comes together like a nice painting.
The exclusive sky blue colored pressing is limited to 750 copies. It also includes custom obi strip + full color printed inner sleeve. This is a must have in our top 5 list! Get it here before it sells out.
Quentin Tarantino – Tarantino Experience (Colored Vinyl)
Quentin Tarantino is likely the most influential director of his generation. But his record collection has proved nearly as influential. Recently in an interview he has stated: “One of the things I do when I am starting a movie, when I’m writing a movie or when I have an idea for a film is, I go through my record collection and just start playing songs, trying to find the personality of the movie, find the spirit of the movie.”
This compilation collects additional music appearing in and inspired by his films including Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, Vol. 1, Jackie Brown, Reservoir Dogs, and Death Proof. Finally, this version is pressed on one red and one yellow LP. Bring home the Tarantino Experience here.
Everything But The Girl – Walking Wounded (180g) Vinyl LP
Walking Wounded from Everything But The Girl was first released in 1996. The eighth studio album from the band sold over a million copies worldwide. Ben Watt and Tracey Thorn were inspired by the burgeoning drum & bass scene in London’s West End. Then then put their own spin on the sounds they were hearing in DJ sets by scene fixtures Doc Scott, Bukem and Fabio.
Now we finally get the chance to own the reissued full album. The half-speed remaster was done at Abbey Road Studios by longtime EBTG mastering engineer Miles Showell with full-color picture sleeve. This is our highest recommendation in the top 5 list! Head over here now and get it.
