Jack White’s Third Man Records To Open a Vinyl Pressing Plant in Detroit, and It’s Glorious
On Opening Day, Third Man Records fans will be able to not only watch records being pressed in front of them through the form of guided tours, but “will be able to buy those records being freshly pressed right in front of their eyes” at Detroit’s Cass Corridor. Housing “eight of the first newly built presses in 35 years”, the presses will be able to churn out 5000 LPs an hour. In addition to pressing records, the in-house store would also sell a variety of merchandise – from that of Third Man to White Stripes.
Third Man Records will also release the first commercially exclusive limited records pressed at the plant. Selling then would include The White Stripes’ debut self-titled record and opening ceremony exclusive The Stooges Deluxe 2 x LP.
The plant is scheduled to have a grand opening on February 25, and will feature guided tours in addition to performances from Craig Brown Band, Oblivion and The Mummies.
