Taylor Swift‘s folklore. is now out on streaming platforms.
The pop superstar surprised the world last night with the announcement of a new album, quickly following 2019’s Lover. Recorded in quarantine, the album was achieved with the help of Aaron Dessner, the multi-instrumentalist member of The National.
“In isolation my imagination has run wild and this album is the result, a collection of songs and stories that flowed like a stream of consciousness,” she writes on a Facebook post at the time of album release.
“Picking up a pen was my way of escaping into fantasy, history, and memory. I’ve told these stories to the best of my ability with all the love, wonder, and whimsy they deserve. Now it’s up to you to pass them down.”
Along with the album release, Taylor Swift has unveiled the album’s first single ‘Cardigan’ with a music video.
folklore. will have 16 songs on the standard edition and the physical deluxe editions will include a bonus track called “the lakes.” As it is her 8th studio album, she has made 8 deluxe CD editions and 8 deluxe vinyl editions that are available for one week. Each deluxe edition has unique covers, photos, and artwork, all available to order here.
On the production process, Dessner wrote that “I’ve rarely been so inspired by someone and it’s still hard to believe this even happened” and that “these songs came together in such a challenging time.”
Alongside Dessner, the album features contributions by Justin Vernon (credited as a featured artist on ‘exile’ as Bon Iver), Jack Antonoff, and William Bowery. Alongside ‘cardigan’, all album tracks are accompanied by lyric videos.
