22 Jan Nujabes’ seminal Modal Soul album finally gets a vinyl release
The Nujabes vinyl reissue train has kept rolling, and it has reached a pivotal destination: the long-awaited release of Modal Soul.
His 2005 album is still regarded as one of his finest albums, and it was the last studio album the prolific producer completed before his untimely death in 2010.
The first-ever vinyl release of Modal Soul.
With his debut Metaphorical Music falling neatly within the breakbeat sub-genre, Modal Soul is a much smoother, hip hop-oriented outing that features the likes of Cise Starr, Shing02, Apani B and the late Terry Callier. The album, just like the efforts of contemporary J Dilla, is a crucial influence over the recent phenomenon of lo-fi hip hop.
Scheduled for release on February 26th, the album is now available for pre-order on HMV Japan here. US retailer Fat Beats recently ran a pre-order that is now sold out, so your best bet is to order it through your local record store if you’re unable to order online. Meanwhile, Metaphorical Music is also available for pre-order on Amazon here.
