10 Oct Johnny Cash and more Sun Records Classics will get 3-inch vinyl release
Johnny Cash and more Sun Records classics will be arriving on 3-inch vinyl this October.
Earlier this year, Record Store Day released the 3-inch single to the world of vinyl collectors. Now, the organisers behind Record Store Day will expand their tiny catalogue of releases with some Sun Records classics.
Four singles from Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Roy Orbison will arrive on the highly collectible format. In detail, the singles that are will be released are, Cash’s “Cry! Cry! Cry!,” Lewis’s “Great Balls of Fire,” Perkins’s “Honey, Don’t!” and lastly Orbison’s “Devil Doll.” Sun and ORG remastered the audio for each single. Moreover, each 3-inch record will feature packaging designed by Jonathon Kimbrell. Also included is a unique fold-out poster.
They will be available as a set or individually on October 18, 2019. To explain the release, the singles will mark the golden anniversary of Sun Record Company’s move to Nashville in 1969.
Although it is to be noted that these tiny records are made to be played on equally tiny turntables. The 3-inch turntable at the present time carries a significantly hefty price tag on resale sites like eBay. Since this year’s Record Store Day, 3-inch releases from Beastie Boys, Insane Clown Posse, Foo Fighters and more have been pressed. Finally, head here for a full list.
