Former White Stripes frontman Jack White talks about new record plant Third Man Pressing
VICE News correspondent Ravi Somaiya toured the factory and sat down with the former White Stripes frontman, Jack White to talk about the resurgence of vinyl in a music world dominated by streaming and his new record plant, Third Man Pressing. Watch the video!
Jack White, of former White Stripes fame and also known for his other projects such as The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather, recently opened a new record plant called Third Man Pressing. A state-of-the-art vinyl production facility in the heart of Detroit’s historic Cass Corridor neighbourhood, it aims to provide a unique customer experience, providing visual evidence to visitor’s of vinyl’s beauty and importance.
The label is first to operate a brand new fleet of environmentally efficient pressing machinery, aiming to minimize waste by using recycled water from the record curing process into the air conditioning system, thus creating the only fully climate controlled pressing plant work environment in the world. The entire plant was engineered to not only be environmentally sustainable, but also community sensitive with its noise reduction construction techniques.
