27 Jan Japanese ambient duo Inoyama Land’s 1983 debut gets first international release
Inoyama Land‘s 1983 masterwork Danzindan-Pojidon will get its first-ever international release, courtesy of label WRWTFWW.
The duo, comprising of Yasushi Yamashita and Makoto Inoue, originally released the album under Yen Records — the now-defunct imprint of Yellow Magic Orchestra’s Haruomi Hosono. Hosono also personally helmed production on the record.
An essential entry into the canon of Japanese ambient music, Danzindan-Pojidon has only ever been released in Japan. A limited domestic vinyl and CD reissue ensued in 2018.
This will be the first time it will be released on physical formats worldwide. WRWTFWW previously achieved this with other Japanese ambient albums Midori Takada’s Through the Looking Glass and Satoshi Ashikawa’s Still Way (Wave Notation 2). The new reissue will be packaged with liner notes by Inoue.
Inoyama Land’s music has enjoyed a recent slate of exposure to a wider audience, featuring on Grammy-nominated release Kankyo Ongaku: Japanese Ambient, Environmental & New Age Music 1980-1990 and working with Empire of Signs on their recent compilation Commissions: 1977-2000.
