18 Dec Gohan Ga Dekitayo gets first international release on vinyl this January
Akiko Yano’s 1980 album Gohan Ga Dekitayo gets its first ever international release on vinyl this January.
Akiko Yano is a rather prominent Japanese pop and jazz musician. This reissue follows two of her albums rereleased on Wewantsounds earlier this year.
In short Gohan Ga Dekitayo roughly translates to “dinner is ready”. Akiko Yano recorded it with Yellow Magic Orchestra while she was part of the group’s touring line-up from 1979 to 1980. What’s most important is, this is the first time Gohan Ga Dekitayo will get a vinyl release outside of Japan via WeWantSounds. Prior to ordering the record, you can listen to the album below.
The double-LP was co-produced together with Ryuichi Sakamoto across Tokyo and Los Angeles. The 14-track album significantly showcases Akiko’s first shift towards a fuller synth sound from her pop and jazz funk origins. The reissue comes out January 24th, including a four-page insert as well as an original cover.
