Breaking the Ice documentary explores Icelandic breaks dug up by DJ Platurn
Filled with a bastion of records that run the gamut from funk to disco to soul and the like, it’s carefully curated, mixed to perfection, and is a lesson we all need to learn. This music that DJ Platurn is bringing us comes from a lifetime of collecting records and also records passed through his family, who have deep musical roots there. This opus is a life’s work, and it shows in every way. But it’s not just the music, it’s in the packaging as well, which includes rare photos via Platurn’s father, Magnus Thordarson, which detail the Icelandic music scene from the 1960’s through the 1980’s.
Watch the premiere of the mini-documentary Breaking the Ice by Peter Magnusson (above), and you can buy the mixtape here. It releases on March 23 via Needle to the Groove and will be sold as a 2xCD package that includes rare photos and liner notes from Wax Poetics scribe David Ma.
