Caribou’s new single ‘Never Come Back’ is an ethereal stomper

Caribou has gone 3-for-3 with his latest single.

Never Come Back‘ marks a month-long wait until the release of Suddenly, his first album in almost six years.

As Caribou, Dan Snaith broke his silence last October with the release of ‘Home’. Since 2014’s stellar Our Love, Snaith has spent considerable time recording and touring as Daphni, his other dance-oriented project.

‘Home’ is a treat different from most of Caribou’s output, with a prominent soul sample and dusty hi-hats that would make J Dilla proud. The following single, ‘You and I’, is a ballad with an assertive synth-pop drive that submerges headfirst into trap territory.

‘Never Come Back’, however, sees Snaith return to his classic palette of deep house hooks, and it shows him at his most self-assured out of the three singles.

The single was premiered on Annie Mac’s BBC radio show Hottest Record in the World. “As soon as I landed on the main synthesizer chords and the repeated refrain, the rest came together very quickly and naturally,” he says.

“I felt like it was my job to get out of the way and not over complicate or over think it. Sometimes the best pleasures are the simple ones.”

Suddenly is set for release on February 28th via City Slang. The album can be pre-ordered here.
